How to get a Swiss Driving licence:

Not later than a year after living in Switzerland, your foreign driving licence must be exchanged for a Swiss licence or you have to pass a test drive.

a. If you are a citizen of one of the countries listed below, your driving licence will be changed into a Swiss licence, incl. cat. C (lorries), D (large vehicles), D1 (taxi).
You will not have to take a theory exam and pass a test drive according to article 44, paragraph 1 VZV.

Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Finland, France, Greece, Great Britain, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxemburg, The Netherlands, Norway, Austria, Portugal, Sweden, Spain.

b. Exempt only from passing a test drive according to article 44, paragraph 1 VZV are holders of foreign driving licences from the following countries:

Andorra, Israel, Japan, Canada, Republic of Korea, Croatia, Malta, Marocco, Monaco, San Marino, Singapore, Slovenia, Hungary, USA, Puerto Rico (USA)

How to enrol for a test drive:

Kanton Basel-Stadt

1. Download the Applicationform.  Antrag Ausweis. Complete the form.       English Translation 

2. 
You should have: a recent photograph), your driving licence, your foreign permit,
    your glasses or contact lenses (if applicable). CHF 140.00 cash or creditcard.

. Go to the Motorfahrzeugkontrolle Basel-Stadt, Clarastrasse 38, 3rd floor.

. After 2-3 weeks you will receive a provisional driving licence (Lenkerbewilligung) and a yellow card.
    Please register only in agreement with me to the test.
    
5. After succed the test drive, you will receive your Swiss driving licence. Swiss License is valid a Lifetime.
